Spin to Support youth with cancer

Our 2017 fundraising total was $125,000. Great work, team! Together, we're changing the lives of children and youth living with cancer.

For the past 20 years, Coast Capital has been a proud tour sponsor and supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer tours. We’re always coming up with fun and exciting ways for our members and staff to get involved to help us raise funds for this great cause. Our Spin to Support challenge is one of the ways we engage with members and staff to do just that.

About Cops for Cancer

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer tour was started 20 years ago. Coast Capital is the Tour Sponsor for three of the tours: Tour de Valley (Fraser Valley), Tour de Coast (Metro Vancouver), and Tour de Rock (Vancouver Island). Each year, law enforcement and emergency services personnel ride up to 1000 km through their regions to raise funds for pediatric cancer research and caring support programs like Camp Goodtimes.

Spin to Support

Each year, our branches come up with some pretty inventive ways to raise donations- think head-shaves, leg waxes (ouch!), bake sales and so on. We wanted to give them another tool to help. Our Chief Risk Officer, Bruce Schouten, was one of our Campaign Co-Chairs this year. He’s a pretty avid cyclist himself, so he came up with a cool challenge for our staff. We called this challenge Spin to Support. Bruce committed to riding the length of one of the tours, 1,000 kilometres. He promised that if our employees came together and matched him on the Spin to Support bike, Coast Capital would donate an additional $5,000 to Cops for Cancer.

Cops for Cancer is something our employees look forward to coming together for each year, so they were immediately up for the challenge. Or other Campaign Co-Chair, Ian Thomas, VP, Investment and Insurance, led our employees through the challenge, encouraging them every step of the way.

While we’re raising funds for a serious cause, we had to do it in our own fun way. Because hey, that’s just how we do things. Don’t take our word for it – watch what happened.

Here’s to finishing up another great year

Both Bruce and our employees reached their goal, so we’ve made an additional $5,000 donation to Cops for Cancer! Thanks to our staff and members who got involved with Spin to Support and helped us reach this goal.
